Privacy Policy: Project July for Android and iOS
Effective
Project July is an independent, community-made app for controlling a June oven over your home network. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
In short
Your oven, camera and cooking data stay on your home network, and we don't collect them.
What stays on your phone
To connect to your oven, the app stores the following on your phone only:
- Your oven's address on your home network and the name you give this phone
- Pairing keys created when you pair with your oven. These are kept in your phone's secure storage (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain) and never leave the device.
- Your preferences, such as the theme, light or dark mode, and °F or °C
We can't see or access any of this.
What goes to your oven
The app talks directly to the Project July server (june-local) running on your own home network. That includes oven status and temperatures, cook settings, the timer, probe readings and pictures from the oven camera. This data travels only between your phone and your server. It isn't sent to us, to June, or to any other company.
The app connects over HTTPS when your phone trusts your server's certificate. Otherwise it falls back to plain HTTP on your home network. On that fallback connection, commands are still signed and pairing is still protected, but the link itself isn't encrypted. Camera pictures are shown in the app and aren't saved on your phone.
App updates (Expo)
When the app starts, it checks for updates with Expo (650 Industries, Inc.), the service that delivers updates to the app. That check sends:
- the app's version and runtime version
- your platform (Android or iOS) and update channel
- a random install ID created by the app, which isn't linked to you, your account or your device hardware
Like any internet request, it also reveals your IP address to Expo. This is used only to deliver updates. Expo handles it under its own privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No accounts, sign-in or sign-up
- No analytics, advertising or tracking
- We don't sell or share your data, and we don't collect your oven, cooking or camera data at all
App stores
Google Play and the Apple App Store may collect information when you download or use apps, such as installs and crash reports. They do this under their own privacy policies, not this one.
Deleting your data
- Settings → Unpair removes the oven's address and pairing keys from your phone.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored, including the install ID.
Because we don't hold any of your data, there's nothing on our side to delete.
Children
Project July isn't directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
